Katestown Map
Katestown

A. Laboratory
A small, sturdy brick building containing the highest technology on Verdahl. Several tables hold a trove of maps of the Starlight Isles on various materials. A bulky laptop sits on one table, its power long since drained. Sextants, abacuses, compasses, star charts, a gps unit (also out of power), it's all here. All along one wall there is a bank of electrical equipment, including a gas generator, more wires and cords than you can shake a stick at, and what looks like--to the knowledgeable--a homemade electrical generator, complete with a containment case for... something. The lab is wired for electricity, complete with old lightbulbs and a light switch on the wall.
In the unlikely event of a hurricane, this is probably the sturdiest building in town.
There is also a back room containing simple living quarters for two people, including a bunk bed, a pair of footlockers, and table with two chairs.
B. Workshop
It looks like much of the construction of the various pieces of Katestown probably went down here. The building itself is made of wood, and houses a long workbench complete with a real tool pegboard on the wall. Tools of all shapes and sizes can be found here, from hammers and awls to levels and a Dremel. There's even a drill press and a bench saw in here, complete with a small gas generator. Someone went to a lot of time and expense to stock this place.
The back room of the workshop contains a living space suitable for one person. There's a low bed with a tarnished metal frame, a chest of drawers that looks like it escaped from the sixties, and a kerosene lantern.
C. Tiki Bar
Complete with a cheap, gaudy, painted metal sign that says "Tiki Bar" in tropical, fluorescent (if somewhat faded) colors. This is basically a tiny bamboo and grass hut just large enough to accommodate the bartender and several bottles of alcohol on shelves. The bottles that are left are dusty but most still have varying degrees of liquid in them. There's also a faded little cooler of the sort that you might take with you on a road trip, although the ice has long since melted. On either side of the bar there are tiki torches planted in the ground, and there are three outdoor tables with chairs arranged close by.
D. Trading Post
A fairly sturdy round wooden building. Why round? Who knows. There aren't as many shelves as a real store, but then again it would be pretty hard to stay stocked with that much stuff here in the jungle between worlds, wouldn't it? The counter contains an antique till and the shelves are stocked with assorted odds and ends. Protein bars, tampons, disposable razors, bottled water, aspirin, and a small assortment of dusty old paperbacks are the more sedate offerings. A few slightly more outlandish items, such as armored bracers, an out-of-date tricorder, and a pair of old six shooters can be found as well.
E. & F. Adjoining apartments
One of the best examples of the slapdash nature of Katestown--this is two separate buildings built nearly on top of one another. One is a smallish hut, big enough for one person or two very cozy people, sitting right next to (and I do mean right next to) a larger square building containing two rooms. If one didn't know any better, they might think the smaller hut to be servants quarters, perhaps? Or... do we know any better?
G. Split level apartments
A fancy, split level wood and bamboo structure built on a hill, containing two rooms upstairs and two rooms downstairs. Each room is furnished with a bed, a small dresser, and chairs of varying styles. The furniture is worn but nice--it looks like it may have been stolen from a motel at some point. Or several motels. All but one of the rooms have a few personal touches in them--vintage art deco perfume bottles in one, board games in another, long-dead datapads in the third. The last is trashed, as if someone grabbed everything they owned and left in a hurry.
H. Apartments
The duplex of bamboo housing. Two complete rooms adjoin without actually opening up to each other. One room looks to have been occupied previously by a fishing enthusiast--there are rods, waders, and a rather large tackle box in addition to the bed and the trunk. The other has a standard bed, small chest of drawers, a standing mirror, and a small bookshelf with fifteen books (mostly of the young adult/teen romance genres).
I. Chapel
What appears to be a multi-denominational chapel: a large bamboo-and-straw hut filled with candles, offering bowls, prayer beads, and icons from at least seven different faiths. There are two rows of pews that would probably seat up to twelve people comfortably in total.
J. Apartments
One large room partitioned off into two smaller rooms by the use of folding screens. Both rooms contain pallets laid right on the floor, along with various other pieces of furniture. Neither contains any personal effects.
